An Afternoon Project

Lost Mule Lodge

… a journey that began with a cabin in the woods

I rarely have any “shaking in my boots” kind of news.  My world is fairly drama free and very simple.

The highlight of my day might be something like – “hey, look at these 3 cockle burrs I found on the dog.”

Or, “can you tell if I am wearing a bra under this sweatshirt?”

But today is different my friends.  Today I have a project to share with you that is going to knock your socks off!

See this old door?  A while back this door made itself comfortable in our garage.  Sometimes as I would walk past it – I would hear myself grumble, “what the heck are we going to do with that old thing?”

It had been in our garage for over a year.  Then, last Saturday,

in one gorgeous fall afternoon, we did this!

Amazing right?

I will give you a minute to gather your socks.

The best part of this Saturday afternoon is that we were working on this project together.

It was a beautiful day, the ground was a crunchy blanket of leaves.

The chickens were roaming & scratching the earth for the last of the seasons bugs.

The dogs were finding various things to roll in, and the house was breathing fresh air through open windows.

And we were tackling this project.

This is Michelle, she begged for a cameo appearance.  I agreed if she promised to stay off my wet paint. She is always struttin’ her stuff.

Now, I’m not sure if I have told you this, but one of the things I love most about the man in my life is his sense of humor.

We laugh – we laugh a lot. He cracked me up on our first date and we have been laughing ever since.

Over the years we have learned that it is nearly impossible to be angry with someone who makes you laugh.

It is like his secret weapon.

To give you an example – here is a typical conversation:

I had lost my glasses.  After I had been searching for them he enters the room.

Me: I can’t find my glasses – have you seen them?

Him: ummmm…  what do they look like?

Me – feeling frustrated: They are the same glasses that have been on my face everyday for the past 3 years!

Him: Describe them for me….

Gotta love a man with a great sense of humor.

And a man who can miter a joint like this!

And especially a man who has the correct answer to the sweatshirt question!

Special Thanks to George for his mitered joints

You must share your antique shopping sites with me. I love your ability to turn an old door into this gorgeous piece!

Well Katie – have you checked your garage? We are amazed at what we find in ours!! Seriously – just Google Estate Sales in your area. Typically we find at least 2 per week – or auctions are fun too! Thanks you for being my blog buddy and taking time to read and comment!
